The Balut Kiki Project
Tuloy lang, mga Bes! We are an international award-winning Filipino podcast by fabulous members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Our goal is to normalize and de-stigmatize conversations that Pinoys generally only talk about in secret - mental health problems (like depression and suicide), sex, sexuality and the human body, non-traditional relationships, among others. "Balut" is a Filipino delicacy consisting of a fertilized developing egg embryo that is boiled and eaten from the shell. So, we aim to make our episodes nutritious though they are not for the faint of heart. While "kiki" is queer slang for a gathering among friends. Kaya we throw in discussions about queer culture and interests - because why not, diba? We are uniquely PINOY. We are unapologetically QUEER. Base sa mga haha-reacts sa FB post ng show ni Ateng Jessica tungkol sa issue na ito, halatang marami pa ring Pilipino ang mapanghusga at hindi lubos nauunawaan ang kalagayan ng mga taong INTERSEX. Samahan ninyo kaming i-demystify ang kahulugan ng letter I sa acronym na LGBTQIA2+, para next time, hindi tayo maging insenstive at mangmang - kasama na kami duon!
Meet Jeff Cagandahan, isang proud intersex man at human rights activist, na siyang co-founder ng Intersex Philippines at co-chair ng Intersex Asia. Di biro ang pinagdaanan ni Jeff na embarrassment at discrimination bilang intersex. Kung kaya't nagsagawa siya ng petition sa korte para palitan ang kanyang pangalan at kasarian, once and for all.
In a landmark ruling by no less than the Supreme Court last 2008, Jeff, who was assigned female ("Jennifer") at birth, became the first-ever Filipino to win such a case.
